Malaysia, country with mixed cultures

After 3 amazing weeks in Myanmar, my next stop is Malaysia. First stop, Kuala Lumpur. I must confess when I got off the airport I felt I was in a very modern and way more rich country than Myanmar, yes a big shock. Here they don't smile so much and they don't look very friendly, but yes I am only few hours in this city, so I can not judge. You can immediately see the difference in the religion, this is a Muslim country. You can see a mixture of Indian, Chinese and Arabic everywhere. Huge buildings and skyscrapers everywhere. Looks like a very interesting combination.

I just stayed 2 days in KL, as it is a big city I preferred to move soon. My one day was a walking tour through the city, of course making friends in the hostel during breakfast and just hanging with them the whole day. Architecture here has a mixture of modern, arabic, which makes the city very special. You are walking through the streets and just see in one corner a Chinese temple, and across the street an Hindu temple, a bit further away you can hear the prayers that comes from the mosque. Magical city!

Food here seems to be amazing, so far I must say it is really tasty, and like this mixture of cultures, architecture and people, food has the same impact. Just walk around and you will find anything you can imagine to eat.

Of course as I'm in KL I need to visit the famous Petronas towers, I think we spent there couple of hours in the park, just looking at the people excercise, well they invited us to join their Tabata training, which I would have love to but the heat and humidity was killing me. So I just cheered them from the bench! Yeah I know, shame on me. Lights on in Petronas towers and the view was magical!

Its seems here people are not so happy as in Myanmar or Thailand, they will never smile at you, only when you smile at them, they will return a smile to you. It's interesting how culture changes from county to country. But still have faith that at the end they will just be as amazing as everyone else!

My next stop is Georgetown, in Penang. Around 5 to 6 hours fron KL by bus and then a small ferry to cross to the island.

I arrived late, and was quite an adventure. The guys in the hostel were waiting for me until midnight, but when I arrived, apparently they gave my bed and they put me in a 4 bed dorm, which sounded better, but then he said to me that they just sprayed the room and it smelled a bit strong. I was there alone and then saw some small insects walking in the walls, bed bugs? Small cockroaches? I don't know, but they asked me if i was ok with the room and i said no. They took me with the car to another hostel. At least I didn't have to walk with the backpack. Was like 20 mins driving around the city to find his friend that had the key of the hostel. At least they told me why the famous Love Lane was called like this. Yes, it used to be a redlight district, now its a street full of bars and nice nigh life. Around the corner there is a bar where they sell the cheapest beer and alcohol, yeah alcohol here is super expensive, it can cost more than your food! After driving around finally arrived to this other hostel, I think  I slept in the staff's room, good thing is I was alone as no one ever came. Next day I moved to another hostel, closer to the main road.

When you are traveling alone, sometimes you don't know how to approach people, but I am getting better, I just start random conversations and this is how i meet nice people to spend the day with. My first day here was walking around the streets of old unesco heritage centre. If you walk around you can see a lot of street art, this is one of the reasons Georgetown is so famous, they have street art in every corner. They are also famous because they have amazing food everywhere, and yeah it is true!

I so wanted to go out for a drink, but I did not manage to meet anyone in the hostel for the afternoon, the girls i've spent the afternoon left so I was alone again. But just got the courage and went out for a drink alone. Of course my loneliness did not last for long, met some nice people and after a while i was dancing despacito in a nice bar until 4 am!

Second day here I've decided to take the local bus and go all the way to the National park, why not get lost in nature and walk around. Its was amazing, completely alone walking next to the beach, in the jungle, I saw a cute family of black monkeys with their little babies around their neck. It was magical to see all this nature around me. Too much time to think while listening to music from one ear and from the other one the sound of the waves and the birds singing. Sometimes thinking too much is not good!

I wonder why people don't take care of their garbage, I think I collected 3 bottles and juice cartons from the beach. People don't care about the environment, that makes me feel so sad and angry at the same time!

When you are traveling, you meet so many different people, from all over the world, places you can not even imagine. People open their hearts to me and you can not imagine what everyone has behind their backs. It amazes me to listen to their stories and beliefs. Sometimes I feel I live in a bubble or that I live in my own world. I hope all these stories of these strong women and men will make me stronger!

What to say about Cameron Highlands, magical place on earth. It seems like the tea plantations with their different green colours touches the very blue sky. Incredible feeling up in the mountains. Just having that feeling of freedom is the best you can have.

I keep meeting amazing people from everywhere, they don't even know me and they have to say so nice words about me. I should really try to believe what people say, it's a great feeling to hear nice words, specialy when you are feeling a bit down. Malacca was a very nice city, and my last one before heading to Singapore. I'm leaving with great memories from Malaysia, great new friends and I'm ready for my next adventure. And yes, after my first impressions, I really enjoyed meeting Malaysian people, they are really nice after all!
