Istanbul, also known as Costantinople!

Image
This time unfortunately i can not help you with hostel tips! I have been twice to Istanbul and both times I stayed with my turkish friends!  If you are staying in Greece you can either take the bus or train or just an airplane! The first time I went to Istanbul (2006) I went by bus from athens, roundtrip more or less 100euros, the bad thing is that it will take ages to get there, around 22 hours each time, the nice thing is that you will have the opportunity to see beautiful landscape throughout the trip. The second time (2010) I took a plane, much better in just 45 minutes you are there! You can check prices in  http://el.aegeanair.com  or in  http://www.olympicair.com , greek airlines with good deals! When arriving to Ataturk airport Istanbul (IST) you can get a taxi or bus to get down town, the Havas airport bus (10 Turkish lira) will leave you in Taksim square but if you need to go to Sultanahmed you can take the metro or another option is the taxi, for 10 to 1...

Madrid, the "Fiesta or siesta" city!

Image
And here we are again! Madrid is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, you can find so many things to do and see! The easiest way to get down town from the airport is using their metro, just paying 2 euros. When buying your tickets you can pick a metro map, it will be very usefull because their metro is really big and confusing! There is only one line from the airport, the pink line N8, to get more direct down town you will have to change at the end of this line ( Nuevos Ministerios ) to the blue line N10 in direction Puerta del Sur and get off in Tribunal where you will have to change one more time to the lightblue line N1(direction Valdecarros) and get finally off at Sol or Gran via ! But be careful in the subway, they can steal you wallet! Well as I told you before we booked in this very central hostel in Gran Via called Metropol Equity point ( http://www.equity-point.com ) , just in Madrid's heart. Not a very nice or new hostel but for the price and the services it was ...

Marrakech, The Red city!

Image
The day has arrived! We are heading to the Red city, Marrakech! Tickets, checked; luggage, checked; passports, checked!and the most important my camera! With no sleep at all we went to the airport around 5.30 a.m., we had an early flight to Madrid and an afternoon one direct to Marrakech. With no knowledge of arabic or french we arrived to the Menara international airport (RAK). Trying to get used to this new environment, we went straight to the exchange house to get some Dirhams (you can check the rate in  http://www.xe.com/ ). We had two options to get to the hostel, one was getting a taxi, which you could arrange a price for more or less 3 euros each passanger, or the second option was taking the bus N19 to the central square for only 30 Dirhams roundtrip or 20 DH for a single trip. We opted for the bus! After 30 mins we arrived to Djemaa El-Fna, the central square of the Red city, where you can see every night musicians, dancers and story tellers. But be carefull, y...

Organizing my trip!

Image
After my brother arrived from his semester abroad he told me about his visit to Marrakech. Actually, it was the first time i heard about this city, so it called my attention immediately and thats how my investigation began! First thing to do, find how to get there the cheapest way we can. So it came to my mind that from Madrid we can find cheap flights with Ryanair, and yes it was true! The difficult part is to find a cheap ticket from Athens to Madrid, unfortunately Greece is not a low budget destination so it's very difficult to find good deals. What I normaly do is I open different tabs with all my favourite web pages,  http://www.edreams.es/ ,  http://www.airtickets.gr/ ,  http://www.easyjet.com  and start searching for my best deal. The first time I look the tickets Madrid-Marrakech I found 21 euros roundtrip. It was a great deal! but I couldnt book them jet, I had to look first for Athens-Madrid. Looking through all the pages and all the prices I cam...
